چکیده
CEN, CFRN, CPEN, and Tom Pietrantonio, BSRT, RRT-RCP, reply: In a study published in Respiratory Care, Shimizu et al3 concluded that the conventional adhesive tape methods had greater extubation force than the 2 endotracheal tube holders and that extubation force varies considerably depending on the width, length, and type of adhesive tape used. Mohammed and Hassan4 studied endotracheal tube slippage at various time intervals when twill versus adhesive tape was used to secure the tube. They reported that at 120 minutes after the tube was secured, 73% of patients in the twill group had no slippage but only 36% of patients in the adhesive groups had no slippage. Tasota et al5 concluded that both internal and external movement of endotracheal tubes was significantly less with commercial endotracheal tube holders than when conventional noncommercial taping methods were used. As a result, nursing staff expressed a higher level of acceptance of commercial endotracheal tube holders as the method of choice for securing endotracheal tubes.

Methods for securing endotracheal tubes in newborn infants.
BACKGROUND Securing the endotracheal tube is a common procedure in the neonatal intensive care unit. Adequate fixation of the tube is essential to ensure effective ventilation of the infant whilst minimising potential complications secondary to the intervention. Methods used to secure the endotracheal tube often vary between units and sometimes even between healthcare providers in the same nurs...
متن کاملComparative assessment of the effects of securing endotracheal tube with endotracheal tube holder devices and the routine method on the quality of airway care in the intensive care unit
Background: Mechanical Ventilation in the intensive care unit is one of the most important interventions. Artificial airways are used to facilitate ventilation and endotracheal tubes are usually used for this matter. Unplanned extubation is one of the major complications of oral endotracheal intubation. In addition to extubation , tube movement can also cause trauma to oral cavity. Stabilizing ...

OBJECTIVES (1) Present a unique case of partial necrosis of the dorsal tongue caused by an endotracheal tube; (2) highlight the importance of verifying proper endotracheal tube positioning during cases requiring prolonged intubation. METHODS Case report and literature review. RESULTS A 50 year-old man underwent total thyroidectomy and bilateral lymphadenectomies for papillary thyroid carcin...
متن کاملEffect of Stabilizing Endotracheal Tube on Quality of Airway Management in Patients Hospitalized in ICU
Background: The unplanned departure of endotracheal tube is one of the main complications for endotracheal intubation. In addition to endotracheal extubation, its movement can also lead to damage to the oral cavity. Stabilizing endotracheal tube is the most important factor that can prevent unplanned departure of endotracheal tube as well as its movement. The current study was done with the aim...
متن کاملPREHOSPITAL CARE Securing the prehospital airway: a comparison of laryngeal mask insertion and endotracheal intubation by UK paramedics
Objectives: The recent introduction of a disposable laryngeal mask airway has provided paramedics with an alternative to endotracheal intubation. Time taken to secure the airway with each device was compared in patients undergoing elective surgery. Methods: Patients undergoing general anaesthesia were studied. Paramedics trained in laryngeal mask use and endotracheal intubation participated in ...
